Job Description

Provides security and protection for Dallas County employees and visitors across all Dallas County buildings; uses devices, such as but not limited to, walkthrough metal detectors, handheld metal detectors, and x-ray technology to prevent dangerous/prohibited items from entering Dallas County buildings. Maintains a high level of awareness of visitors by being alert for any unusual circumstances that may arise or for any suspicious or threatening conditions or behaviors.
1. Performs screener duties in and around County property and assists in controlling access on County property; takes necessary action to prevent injury to persons and loss of property; reports all circumstances to immediate supervisor.

2. Operates x-ray machine and walk-through/hand-held metal detectors to screen public before allowing access to facility. Ensures the screening area is always physically clean and tidy.

3. Communicates instructions and proper procedures to individuals when going through metal detectors. Practices situational awareness, strong communication skills and good judgment to decide who or what may need additional screening, based on established industry, agency, and facility procedures. Acts with courtesy and respect. Communicates and writes detailed incident reports.

4. Communicates information using devices such as handheld radios and telephone.

5. Follows instructions from law enforcement officers with minimal supervision.

6. Performs other duties as assigned. Education, Experience and Training:

Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record. Meet the minimum mental and physical standards. Knowledge and proficiency in safeguarding entry points and county infrastructures Mandatory physical exam. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, keen observation, effective decision-making abilities, and sound professional judgement. Must be able to work well in a team environment, communicate in an appropriate manner and follow directions as needed.


Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Binocular vision, correctable to 20/30. Able to discriminate between standard colors. Capable of hearing ordinary conversation at ten feet, with each ear. The use of hearing aid is permissible.
