1.0 FTE Long Term Substitute Word Based Learning Coordinator
Summary:
A Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator for students with disabilities within NLSEC acts as the bridge between the classroom and the professional world. Their primary mission is to help students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in multiple school districts to develop the skills, experience, and confidence needed to transition into adulthood and competitive employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a Secondary Special Education Teaching license as well as a Teacher Coordinator Work Based Learning endorsement and should have experience teaching secondary students.
- Proficiency with special education due process and understanding of Secondary Transition programming and planning.
- Understanding of the process of analyzing a business's unmet needs and creating a customized job description specifically for a student's unique abilities.
- Ability to network with small and large businesses as well as outside agencies to accrue future and maintain current worksites for student placements.
- Be highly organized and detail-oriented to manage Training Agreements, Safety Plans, and Department of Labor regulations.
- Be able to work with a variety of educational and community based teams to plan effective programs and instruction for students with disabilities.
The WBL Coordinators have key responsibilities within the specific aspects of the program:
Program Development
- In collaboration with IEP managers, configure a work schedule that fits in with student's academic load and employer needs.
- In collaboration with IEP managers, design and deliver the school-based career seminar course, including instruction on career exploration, safety, and employee rights.
- Design and implement a process for accepting students into the Work-Based Learning program
- Recruit employers to participate in the Work-Based Learning program
- Secure suitable worksites for students
Program Management
- Develop partnerships with employer partners
- Coordinate the Work-Based Learning advisory committee
- Confirm logistics, parent/guardian permission and emergency contact information
- Partner with employers and students to finalize an individual training agreement and training plan
- Assist in the facilitation of onboarding Vocational Rehabilitation Services, if appropriate.
Program Supervision
- Review worksite responsibilities with the student and employer
- Conduct worksite visits to ensure the workplace is a safe and appropriate environment
- Monitor and track students' work experience hours
- Encourage students to share information regarding supports and accommodations needed to be successful in the workplace
- Maintain communication with employer
- Follow-up on any concerns or questions raised by the student, parent/guardian, or employer
Program Evaluation
- Evaluate student progress on individual training plan
- Collect documentation and submit reports as required by school district
- Coordinate the evaluation of the Work-Based Learning program yearly and make changes as needed
Program Marketing
- Work with school administrators and school counselors to ensure the program is included in the class schedule
- Create promotional materials
- Promote the program to parents, students, teachers and employer partners
Interagency and Community Relations
- Participate in Northern Lights Interagency Council and secondary transition subcommittee.
- Communicate with state and local government and private organizations that provide job training and employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
- Provide disability employment awareness to community organizations and community leaders.
NLSEC Responsibilities
- Attend NLSEC Staff meetings.
- Attend NLSEC Work Based Learning meetings.
- Represent NLSEC in regional and state
Salary and Benefits
The position is for 19 working days. The daily substitute pay for this position is $170.00/day. If the position should go beyond the 30 days the rate would be between $270.92 - $323.74 per day (After 30 days) and your initial placement is dependent on your qualifications (education and years of relevant experience).
