*Position qualifies for employee referral bonus. $20k sign on bonus with 3+ years experience as RN in Acute Care. $5k sign on 1-3 years experience.

Shift: 8 HOUR SHIFTS, 6:45am - 3:15pm

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

Under the direction/supervision of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager and RN Charge Nurse with minimal supervision, the R.N. Operating Room plans, prepares and provides individualized preoperative care by using the Nursing Process. Employees supervised: L.V.N.s, ORTs and EVS. Responsible for the care of equipment, supplies and inventory of the department. Handles confidential information regarding patient records, department and hospital activities. Requires little supervision. Makes daily Nursing judgments and moderate to hard decisions involving interpretation of general policy and procedure. Has some input into budget regarding capital purchases. Inter-relates with other department personnel on a daily basis. Performs all work with accord to the mission, vision and values of Sierra View Medical Center.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Must have and maintain ACLS certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department. Six (6) month time frame is at the discretion of the Department Director. PALS Certification strongly preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
*Indicates Essential Function

1 * The R.N. will initiate accurate and ongoing assessments of physical and psychosocial needs of patients undergoing Surgery and/or invasive procedures as evidenced by written documentation.
2 Preoperatively assesses the physiological health status of the patient in a timely manner, legibly documented, pertinent to the procedure and with a reflection of priorities.
3 * Patients will be reassessed pertinent to their individual need to include response to interventions.
4 Insures that supplies and equipment necessary for the care of the patient are readily available and in working order.
5 * Promotes patient/family involvement in decision making processes. Anticipates potential problems and performs nursing actions to minimize those problems to facilitate optimal patient safety.
6 * The Perioperative R.N. will implement a plan of care based on assessment data as well as a sound knowledge base as evidenced by observation of performance, reporting of actions and documentation of written records.
7 Exercises critical thinking skills and collaboration with all members of the health care team.
8 * Uses initiative to function independently in performing patient care measures within the Nursing scope of practice to include patient monitoring, education, and life saving and limb saving measures.
9 * Documents legibly and completely all care and treatments performed. Structure Standards.
10 * The Perioperative Nurse will evaluate and modify the plan of care based on observable responses by the patient and attainment of patient goals.
11 * The Perioperative Nurse will provide care based on philosophic and ethical concepts, such as reverence for life, respect for inherent dignity and worth of each individual and maintenance of patient privacy during assessments, treatments, and ongoing care.
12 * The Perioperative Nurse will ensure open and timely communication with patients, their significant others and healthcare members to ensure the occurrence of effective therapeutic interventions.
13 Communicates with the patient and family to elicit essential information with accuracy and timeliness to provide safe patient care. Provides accurate and timely information to assist patient and family participation in care.
14 * Communicates accurately and in a concise manner any pertinent changes in the patient’s condition to the Anesthesiologist, attending physician and appropriate members of the Health Care Team. The R.N. also uses effective communication with all health care personnel to clarify questionable orders.
15 * Demonstrates adherence to the Joint Commission "National Patient Safety Goals for Hospitals" as defined by Scope of Practice.
16 * Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
17 * Demonstrates skill and ability to perform waived testing as per established policy and procedure.
18 * Engages the patient through teaching in activities that support the NPSGs.
19 * The Perioperative Nurse will provide safe, competent and current care while adhering to established Standards of Nursing Practice.
20 Must be able to function independently and maintain all competencies for the role of the Perioperative Nurse after sufficient training.
21 Demonstrates dependability and professional image by, but not limited to, adhering to dress code, reporting to duty on time, using benefit time appropriately, performing on-call obligations, maintaining clean patient care and work areas, and promoting patient and visitor satisfaction.
22 * Upholds all aspects of the Nursing Practice Act as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
23 * Demonstrates standards of documentation as evidenced by individual chart review and no letters of education in file.
24 * Provides evidence of adherence to all nine ANA Code of Ethics for the Nursing profession.
25 * Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
