RN First Assistant - Full Time

Shift: 8 hour variable shifts, typically AMs. Start times vary + Call (within 30 minutes)

*Position may qualify for employee referral bonus. $15k sign on bonus with 3+ years RN experience.

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

Under the direction/supervision of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager or RN Charge Nurse with minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse First Assistant is a Perioperative nurse who works in collaboration with the surgeon and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. During the assisting phase and until conclusion of the operative procedure the R.N.F.A. is under the direction of the Surgeon. As needed, the R.N.F.A. may provide patient care by circulating or scrubbing surgical procedures or cleaning operatories. The Registered Nurse First Assistant is credentialed through the medical staff as allied health provider.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Must have and maintain CNOR certification or obtain within one (1) year from hire. Must have and maintain current BLS Card, required. ACLS Card required or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department. Six (6) month time frame is at the discretion of the Department Director. Must have proof of current nursing malpractice insurance.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1 * Assists with perioperative patient assessment, teaching, management and planning for perioperative experience.
2 Provides hemostasis by clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, and by other means as directed by the surgeon
3 Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques.
4 Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon during the operative procedure.
5 * Performs wound closure as directed by the surgeon; sutures the peritoneum, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin.
6 Applies surgical dressings.
7 Assists with transfer of the patient from the operating room.
8 Actively participates in perioperative clinical care guidelines for hospital and physician use.
9 * Upholds all aspects of the Nursing Practice Act as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
10 * Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
