Senior Tolling Quality Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tolling Quality Engineer to oversee quality assurance and continuous improvement activities at our tolling (contract manufacturing) partner sites in China. In this role, you will act as the primary quality interface between company and external manufacturing partners, ensuring that patterning and slurry materials are produced to the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Location: Yentai, Shandong

Your Role will:
• Serve as the primary quality point of contact for tolling partners manufacturing formulations materials in China.
• Conduct regular on-site quality audits, process assessments, and facility reviews at tolling sites.
• Qualify new tolling suppliers and manufacturing processes against Merck quality requirements and industry standards.
• Manage supplier corrective action requests (SCARs), non-conformance reports (NCRs), and deviation approvals.
• Maintain and improve quality documentation including SOPs, specifications, and quality agreements.
• Support regulatory submissions and customer-facing quality documentation as required.
• Collaborate with R&D, formulation, and process development teams to support new product introductions (NPI) and scale-up activities at tolling sites.
• Interface with global quality, operations, supply chain, and commercial teams to align on quality strategy and deliverables.
• Support customer audits and technical reviews involving tolling-manufactured materials.
• Represent quality function in project teams for site transfers, capacity expansions, and process changes.
• Provide quality training and coaching to tolling partner personnel.
• Monitor and analyze key quality metrics (Cpk, yield, OOC/OOS rates) for formulations material production.
• Lead root cause analysis and 8D investigations for quality escapes and customer complaints.
• Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and statistical process control (SPC) methodologies.

Who you are:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum of Bachelors degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or other Technical discipline.
• 5 yrs or more in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, or semiconductor fabrication experience.
• Solid understanding of formulations material manufacturing processes.
• Hands-on experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF14949)
• Proficiency with root cause analysis tools (8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why).
• Strong knowledge of statistical tools: SPC, Cpk/Ppk analysis.
• Demonstrated Oral communication in native language and English.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated ability to motivate others and work collaboratively with multiple internal stakeholders
• Demonstrated success in contributing to the advancement of projects, project teams, and process improvements
• Demonstrated experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma projects or in data-driven process optimization projects
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple activities and projects.
• Moderate to Advanced Statistical knowledge (SPC, t-test, ANOVA, single and multivariate statistical modelling)
• Experience in quality tools for problem solving (5Whys, segmentation, Model Based Problem Solving), FMEAs, continuous improvement (CI) activities, management of change, and document control systems.
• Proficient with data science/statistical software including JMP, Palantir Foundry, Python, and/or visualization tools such as Tableau
• Experience with process improvement, data automation, and data digitization.
• Excellent communication skills – oral and written in more than native language, English, and more
• Ability to work with people from various backgrounds/cultures
• Experience within Electronics industry (preferably in semiconductors)
• ISO9001 or IATF 16949 Internal Auditor Certification
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
• SAP experience
