About the Role

The Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of clients within the life science sector, including pharmaceutical, biotech, academic research, and clinical laboratory organizations. This role acts as a strategic partner to clients, delivering value-added solutions and ensuring a best-in-class customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for life science customers including R&D, QA/QC, manufacturing, and procurement stakeholders.
  • Build trusted, consultative relationships with scientists, lab managers, procurement teams, and C-suite contacts.
  • Understand clients’ research workflows and business challenges to recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct regular on-site and virtual visits to maintain engagement and drive satisfaction.

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Achieve and exceed territory sales targets across product lines (e.g., reagents, instruments, consumables, software, or services).
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within existing and prospective accounts.
  • Drive upselling and cross-selling across the full portfolio.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation to contract closure.

Account Strategy & Planning

  • Develop strategic account plans aligned with customer goals and company objectives.
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with key accounts.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments in the life science space.
  • Collaborate with field application specialists, product managers, and marketing teams to support client needs.

Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Prepare and deliver tailored proposals, scientific presentations, and ROI analyses.
  • Provide regular forecasting and pipeline reporting to sales leadership.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology) or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 3–5 years of experience in account management or technical sales within the life science industry.
  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows, research tools, and life science products.
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong scientific acumen with the ability to engage credibly with researchers and technical buyers.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into business value.
  • Experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) and MS Office Suite.
  • Self-organized with the ability to manage a large territory and diverse client base.
